Don't Be Caught Sleeping

A while ago during one of my morning devotions, the words ‘don’t be caught sleeping’ kept coming to mind. I immediately prayed that I wouldn’t be caught sleeping, but caught being about my Father’s business. Our minds should remain sober and alert because the enemy is roaming this world. 1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Satan’s number one goal is to destroy God’s children. He will lie to you and tell you that he will give you the desires of this world like fame, riches, etc. if you follow him. You start to listen to his lies because they sound pleasing and before you know it, you're justifying your actions all the while begging God to forgive you for falling for the enemy’s lies. Yes, God will forgive you, but why put yourself in that predicament? We get so caught up with what the world has to offer, especially when we start comparing ourselves to them and soon become...

There's a Snake in Your Garden

Image
I once heard a story about a couple who were having a quiet evening when their dogs suddenly began barking. They got louder, so the husband went outside to check on things. In a panic, he called to his wife and told her there was a snake in the corner of the entryway. While she kept an eye on the 4-foot snake, he went and got a shovel and a knife. After taking care of the snake, reality hit. In order for her husband to get out the front door, he passed right by the snake that could’ve struck out and bit him, or worse. God protected them both from harm. We must be careful to keep watch of our surroundings, especially our homes. The enemy will use any way possible to slither in and lay in wait to strike out and destroy. Just like he did when he made his move on Eve in the garden. He convinced her that it was okay to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge and that nothing bad would happen. And so, she ate the fruit, then gave it to Adam to eat. But what happened after they ate...

Have You Lost Your Voice?

I recently heard a story of a young woman who hid her identity just to fit in. My first thought was, ‘wow, I can relate.’ She went to an Ivy League school for their engineering program but, people doubted her intelligence because she was of a different culture. They didn’t think she belonged at this school and pretty soon their words sunk in and she began to believe them. She dropped out of that school and went to another where she wasn’t the minority. She lost herself. She lost her voice because of what others thought of her. Growing up in Hawaii I never felt like a minority or the need to hide who I was to fit in. It wasn’t until we moved from Hawaii to another state where I had my first encounter with someone who made me feel beneath them. I worked at a preschool and would often open the main door for parents and kids. One day a father came to pick up his child and when I opened the door, I said ‘hello.’ He looked past me and did not say one word, just kept walking. Another...

What keeps you from going all in?

Image
What happens when God calls you to step out from the comfort of your safe little box? Do you step out and say, ‘okay God, it’s You and me?’ Or do you say, ‘no way’ and triple check that the door is securely bolted? So what keeps you from going all in?  Fear, doubt, anxiety, isolation, depression, business…just to name a few. Whenever I am going through something, somehow God reminds me of the promises He’s made. A scripture verse or an encouraging word from someone helps bring my focus back on Him.  Fear has kept me from doing the things that I’ve wanted to do for most of my life. I’ve been told many times that I wasn’t good enough and made to feel worthless. I stayed in my corner, safe in my box afraid to take a leap of faith and step out. Over the years I have set so many goals for myself, but the voice in my head made sure that I would stay right where I was. It is an ongoing battle that even now as I am writing this, the voice is telling me that nobody cares about wh...

Hello everyone! I wrote this poem when I felt alone and that no one understood my pain.  I think about, (and sometimes sing), the words and let it minister to my heart.  God is always there when we need Him.  He hasn't left us to figure things out for ourselves.  No, He wants us to lean on Him and trust that He will carry us through whatever storm we are facing.  Be encouraged and let the words minister to your heart as well!! <3 Have a blessed day!! Take My Hand Take my hand, Lord I pray Walk beside me everyday I give to You, all that I am Lord take my hand Take my hand, guide me Lord Carry me through the roughest storm I give to You, all that I am Lord take my hand Copyright© Lisa Robertson March 29, 1999 All Rights Reserved

Know Your Enemy

The thief does not come except to steal , and to kill , and to destroy . I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.   John 10:10   The enemy’s main goal is to destroy us and to keep us from God our Father.   Each of us is born with a purpose.   In 1 Samuel 17 we read the story of David and Goliath.   Goliath was a Philistine and stood six cubits and a span or about 9 feet 9 inches.     He was the champion of the Philistines and the bible says in verses 5 – 7 “ He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back.   His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him.”   Goliath was ready for battle.  When we get ready for battle the bible says in Ephesians 6:10-18 that we ne...

Ignite Summer Youth Camp - 2017

Last week Thursday we made the two hour+ drive to Warrenton, OR for Youth Summer Camp. This was the first youth camp that Jeff and I have been a part of, we were excited and nervous at the same time. Surprisingly, the kids were energized after the long bus ride, while I was ready for lights out haha! Hey I'm old! lol After a time of devotions, they played games and a nacho bar was set up for snacks. Then it was lights out HALLELUJAH!! 😊 We spent most of Friday down in Seaside where the five teams challenged each other in arcade games, scavenger hunt, and other fun events. We went to Sunset Beach and watched the beautiful sunset, (I wished I remembered to take a picture!), played volleyball and a VERY competitive game of tug of war. **Everyone stands in a circle holding approximately 2' of rope in each hand. A trash can is placed in the middle and the object is to get a person to either touch the trash can or let go of the rope. Last man standing is the winner.** Hotdogs and ...

"If Your Life Was a Book, What Would the Title Be?"

Hmm…what would the title be? As I sit and ponder on this question, a few titles come to mind.   ‘God’s Not Finished with Me Yet,’ ‘He’s Still Working on Me,’ or maybe, (just for fun), ‘Keep Chuggin’ Along!’ The last suggestion was of course just for fun, but encouraging don’t you think? Throughout my walk with Christ, I have faced many trials.  The path that God has laid out for me is often times a difficult one to follow.   I find myself wanting to control every situation in my life.  My way will undoubtedly bring chaos and anxiety.   My way will NEVER work.   Because no matter how much I try to control the situation, GOD IS IN CONTROL !!! No matter how much I plea and cry out to Him, if it's not His will, it’ll never be.  I must put my trust in Him and believe that He knows what's best for me. Learning to trust someone, (even if it's the Creator of the Universe), has been something I've battled with for most of my li...

Rise Up and Pray for Our Children!

The other night while watching Facing the Giants, God revealed something to me.  It was during the scene where the older gentleman prayed as he walked down the hallway while laying hands on the students’ lockers.  Over the next few days I could not get that scene out of my head.  I prayed and asked God what does He want me to do? He said, encourage the church to take their children back from the lies of the enemy!! I pray that this will shake you up as it did me when God first laid this question on my heart. I pray you heed His word. # # # Do you want your children to go to hell? What?? Why would you ask such a question?! I know that's probably going through your mind right now.  So, why would I ask a question like this? Because GOD is asking this of YOU!! It's time we stop sitting back, letting others do what we should be doing.  Stop waiting for the day to 'meet me at the flag pole' to pray for our children.  It's OUR...

What's My Passion? What's my passion? I've been pondering this question since yesterday.  I have always loved writing, it helps to get my thoughts in order.  I can remember sitting on the rock wall in our front yard jotting down lyrics to a song or poem.  It was during my early teens where I believe God had given me the gift to create beautiful pictures with words.  I look back at some of the songs and poems that I've written and I see how the Lord has brought me out of the valleys.  It reminds me that even in my most loneliest, darkest times, God was still with me.  The bible says that He, God, will never leave us nor forsake us.  I believe with my whole heart that He never will.  I also believe with my whole heart that I can hide under the shadow of the Almighty and find rest in Him. Writing is my passion, but somewhere somehow I lost sight of it.  I began to doubt that this was my calling, my way of 's...
