Remaining in God's Presence - Psalm 91
As I read Psalm 91(NKJV), it tells me that "he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." What does it mean to dwell? -To reside, lodge, or stay put.- When we dwell in the presence of God, we are drawing nearer to Him. James 4:8 tells us "draw near to God and He will draw near to you." Our eyes should be focused on God and nothing else. Whenever we take our eyes off of God, it can become 'all about me and what I want' and we miss what He has in store for us. We begin to pull away from God and lose sight of what He wants, to have a relationship with us and to bless us. When we are so far from His presence and focused on me, myself, and I, the easier it becomes for the enemy to creep in and fill our heads with negativity. Our focus is no longer on the Almighty and we are no longer abiding under His shadow.
Who wouldn't want to remain under God's protection where we're free from the enemies lies? I know I would! I close my eyes and picture myself standing in the middle of this enormous darkened area. Flaming arrows of doubt, worry, depression, anxiety, fear, and many others are flying my way. But as soon as it comes near the shadow, it crumbles into pieces because of God's power. In verse seven it says, "a thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you." No harm can come near us!
There's a peaceful feeling that surrounds me as I dwell in His presence. THAT is where I want to reside, knowing God is protecting me no matter what the enemy tries. How can we remain in that peace? By drawing near to God, reading His word, (the Bible), and praying daily. The more we read and pray, the deeper our relationship with God will become.
I pray that this has encouraged you in some way. It's a daily battle to keep our eyes focused on God, but remember, Romans 8:37 says, "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."
Have a blessed day and be encouraged!!
